ARTICLE: MY FOOD PLAN 23-9-17

This food plan is going to be somewhat controversial as it features pasta and not just once, but 3 times!!! How can I call myself a health guru if I eat pasta? This is an important question and one that I am happy to answer.

Pasta and many other simple carbohydrates like bread, rice and potatoes are normally first off the list on a new regime and for good reason as most of us eat too much of these carbohydrates. They usually feature in more than one meal a day and our portion size is normally out of control. Plus, our activity level rarely requires so many carbohydrates in our diet with most of us working sedentary jobs and even if we do a workout we are still not moving huge amounts throughout the whole day. Therefore, a simple, efficient and sensible way to lose weight and reduce overall calories is to cut down on carbs. I normally do this too. If you read my food plan regularly you will notice that I always have at least one carb free meal a day, focusing on having plenty of protein and vegetables at every meal.

However, as I touched on last week, my energy output is far higher than normal at the moment. I am training much more than I usually would and at an incredibly intense level. Subsequently, I have been hungrier and oatcakes are just not hitting the spot! Therefore, I have decided to have pasta post workout to see if that helps keep me fuller for longer. I am going to add prawns to make sure I get some good protein in and some roasted red peppers for veg. Making it a beautifully balanced meal, plus I will weigh out my pasta (75g) each time to ensure my portion is under control.

I am not concerned in the slightest about having pasta in my food plan as I know I need the fuel at the moment, but that does not mean that I will do this every single week. Only when I feel I do need the extra carbs. Plus, I am still having a carb free dinner in the evening to keep my day as a whole balanced. Eating well is about understanding what your body needs and fuelling it appropriately with wholesome foods. I love food, I cannot stress this enough and nothing is ever banned from my food plan. It is all about being in control of what I am eating, planning appropriately and enjoying every meal and let me tell you I cannot wait to have some pasta this week!
